David Hayter and rest of the original voice cast to return in Metal Gear Solid 3 remake

For those worried about whether the cast of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will sound like they remembered, worry no more. Konami recently confirmed that David Hayter and the rest of the original game’s voice actors will return in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

A post on Konami’s website confirms that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will remain faithful to creator Hideo Kojima’s vision. As part of this, the original game’s voice cast will be returning.

“The remake will star the original voice characters, rich storyline, and expansive features of combat features in harsh environments evolved with unprecedented graphics and immersive sound,” reads the post.

The confirmation that David Hayter will return to voice Snake in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake should help assuage any fears fans have about the game. Hayter’s has become inextricably linked with the character that the move to replace him with Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V was met with significant backlash.

“I really think it said a lot about the industry the fact that there was so much backlash,” said voice actor Troy Baker, who co-starred alongside Sutherland in MGSV, in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. “I know that David felt a lot of love from people. I think he felt more love than he did anger like other people’s love for him outweighed any anger that he felt but we really don’t have like Charles Martinet who’s been voice of Mario since day one but do we really have another actor that has been assigned more to a video game role more than David Hayter? I don’t think.”

With David Hayter and the rest of the original cast returning in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Konami should be able to avoid any sort of similar backlash this time out.

Of course, if fans find any issue with the new game’s voice acting, or anything else, the original Metal Gear Solid 3 is also returning as part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 later this year. (Read: Here’s just about all big PlayStation Showcase announcements)
