First-ever E-Palarong Pambansa to feature 5 esports titles
The Philippines’ first-ever E-Palarong Pambansa will have players battle it out in five different esports titles when qualifers begin this May.
The E-Palarong Pambansa will feature Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Call of Duty Mobile and Valorant. The list of game was revealed just days after official polls for a “people’s choice” game selection was hijacked by bots.
“Despite the recent setbacks, the E-Palarong Pambansa team has dedicated immense effort towards selecting games that are fair, inclusive, and capable of providing an outstanding tournament experience. To ensure we deliver on this commitment, we took into account various aspects, including the limitations of being a startup organization,” reads a statement from the organization.
According to Jam Monthermoso, the events’ Head of Corporate Partnerships, the E-Palarong Pambansa was “specifically designed for student-athletes hailing from various regions of the country.” He added that the National Youth Commission had also given its endorsement for the tournament. In addition, Monthermoso also touted the event as being one of the first of its kind in the world.
“E-Palarong Pambansa also marks one of the first global shows of national government support for esports with the goal of creating a stable and sustainable grassroots esports ecosystem,” he explained. “It also aims to promote Esports as a supplementary part of the holistic development of Filipino youth by fostering self-discipline, teamwork, and competitive excellence.”
Qualifiers for the E-Palarong Pambansa will take place this coming May followed by the group stages in June.
The grand finals for the event will take place from July 22 to 23 at the ICON – Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City.
