Genshin Impact version 1.2 brings the new Dragonspine region on Dec. 23

You might remember that we wrote about Genshin Impact’s update for a new playable area a while back. Now, we are just a few days away from the game’s new update, and we cannot be more excited! Here’s a quick recap of the events leading up to Genshin Impact’s version 1.2 update.

On December 11, 2020, game developer Mihoyo announced that it will be releasing the version 1.2 update fo its popular RPG Genshin Impact, called the “Chalk Prince and the Dragon,” on the 23rd of December. This new update will place into the mix the new Dragonspine map. This is in line with Mihoyo’s plans to add an update to Genshin Impact every six weeks to keep the game fresh. In their blog post, they revealed that the updates would come in on Wednesdays and that some of the events would be in line with what’s happening out in the real world.

Genshin Impact is an action RPG that thrusts gamers into the magical world of Teyvat where they play a Traveler in search of their lost sibling. Currently, players can roam around Liyue Harbor and Mondstadt, which are two of the seven major cities of Teyvat. Each city is designed with its own unique identity, which is evident in the culture, landscapes, creatures, and stories that the player will encounter in each respective location.

The new update highlights Dragonspine, the game’s first new map expansion. Dragonspine is a mountain range that is located just south of Mondstadt, and it is known for having extremely cold weather. Apart from the usual battles with monsters, Travelers would also have to brave the bitter cold. Dragonspine is also the home of many fascinating creatures, rare tools, how-tos for creating four-star weaponry, and a wide pool of ingredients. There are also talks of the new map area having a lost civilization. As an added challenge, the extreme cold of Dragonspine is yet another obstacle that Travelers need to overcome. The developers are adding in a new Sheer Cold bar, which players would need to keep a close eye on because they would need to keep their Travelers warm above all else.

The latest seasonal event of the game, also called “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” will also be held in Dragonspine. Travelers will be accompanying the Captain of the Investigation Team of Mondstadt’s Knights of Favonius and genius Chief Alchemist, Albedo, to look into the mystery of the sword called Festering Desire. Players would have the opportunity to acquire the sword for themselves and redeem rewards from the event shop.

New characters, namely Albedo and Ganyu, will also be playable. Each character would have their own story, with players being offered the opportunity to dive deeper into Ganyu’s story through a side quest.

Genshin Impact is now available on the PlayStation 4, PC, iOS, and Android. There are also plans to make the game compatible with Nintendo Switch.
