Mortal Kombat 12 reveal teased
The official Mortal Kombat 12 reveal could finally be at hand based on a new video on the series’ official YouTube channel.
The 12th mainline installment of the storied fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat 12 was first accidentally revealed during a Warner Bros. earnings call last February. Since then, however, developer NetherRealm Studios has been tight-lipped on the game.
That all looks to end soon with a new teaser trailer posted on the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel.
The video, shows a clock ticking to 12 before the seconds hand ends up magically skipping the number back to one. This could seemingly hint that Mortal Kombat 12 is resetting the series’ timeline once again—something the series already did with its ninth installment.
Could this mean that the new game is going back to the events original Mortal Kombat? Or is it going even further back to tournaments taking place earlier in the series’ lore, serving as a prequel of sorts? With such a short teaser, it seems fans will have to wait for the official Mortal Kombat 12 reveal to find out.
The question then is what Mortal Kombat 12 will bring when developers’ NetherRealm Studios finally reveal the game.
2023 looks to be a big year for fighting games, what with Street Fighter 6‘s impending release. Street Fighter 6 brings with it expanded single-player content, including an open-world “World Tour” mode allowing players to create their own custom fighter. This feature, however, was originally pioneered by Mortal Kombat in with the “Konquest Mode” from Mortal Kombat Deception and Mortal Kombat Armageddon.
Will Mortal Kombat 12 feature a similar mode now that its main rival franchise is going down that route? Players will likely find out when the game gets its official reveal, hopefully soon.
