PlayStation Showcase: All the announcements and updates
Sony held its PlayStation Showcase event last week, in the process dropping more than a few bombshells as it laid out the future of the console. It provided updates to much-awaited games and made a few surprise announcements as well.
Here are all the announcements Sony made at the PlayStation Showcase.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake console-exclusive to PlayStation 5
Right of the bat, Sony dropped a bombshell PlayStation Showcase announcement, revealing that a remake of the beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic would be coming to PlayStation 5.
That one of the most-loved Star Wars games of all time is getting a remake is pretty big news on its own. That a remake of an Xbox exclusive is now a console-exclusive for PlayStation 5 (a PC version is coming as well) may be even more shocking for some.
Insomniac is working on Wolverine
In yet another bombshell announcement, Sony teased that Insomniac is working on Wolverine. The developers behind the acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 are working on an action game based on everyone’s favorite adamantium-laced mutant.
Sadly, not much was shown about the game. Of course, this is likely because they’re also working on the next game that was revealed.
Spider-Man 2 will feature Venom, and maybe Kraven
Insomniac is also working on the much-awaited follow-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. The biggest reveal for the game is that Venom will be joining the two Spider-Men in some capacity. In addition, the narration also hints that classic Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter will also be involved in the game.
God of War Ragnarok‘s name is official
It’s hard to believe that up until now, God of War Ragnarok hasn’t had an official title. But the latest gameplay trailer for the game reveals confirms that that is the name of the game. In addition, the trailer also shows snippets of gameplay and story, hinting that the Norse god of war Tyr, and the god of thunder Thor will have roles to play in it.
Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are coming to PC and PS5
Sony revealed that Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy would be coming to PlayStation 5 as part of the Legacy of Thieves Collection. This itself isn’t surprising. What’s surprising is that the collection is also coming to PC.
Gran Turismo 7 arrives in March
Gran Turismo 7 finally has a release date, March 4, 2022. To celebrate this, Sony dropped a new trailer at the PlayStation Showcase showing off more cars, more returning tracks, as well as a new look at GT Mode, which looks heavily revamped from what was shown in previous trailers.
Square Enix finally reveals more Forspoken
One of the company’s biggest upcoming projects not named Final Fantasy, Forspoken is the work of Luminous Production. This is the team put up to create games based on the Luminous Studio engine Square Enix originally created for Final Fantasy XV. What was shown at PlayStation Showcase looks promising, channeling heavy isekai vibes, with jaw-dropping graphics. The game will launch as a limited PS5 exclusive in Spring 2022.
Alan Wake is remastered on PlayStation 5
Former Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake is getting a remaster, and it’s coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 (as well as PC and Xbox). While this isn’t the first time the game was shown, Epic Games still took the time to show more of the game at the PlayStation Showcase.
Project Eve is a k-pop Devil May Cry
Gamers familiar with Korean MMOs may already be familiar with the work of Kim Hyung-Tae. The artist turned game developer’s art has graced the likes of Magna Carta and Blade and Soul. Now, he’s trying his hand at a Devil May Cry-style character action game. The PlayStation 5-exclusive Project Eve looks to feature all the hallmarks of the genre, with the game’s PlayStation Showcase announcement trailer showing off some stylish action and epic boss fights.
Rainbow Six Extraction will finally arrive next year
The twice-delayed next installment Rainbow Six franchise finally arrives on January 22, 2022.

Ghostwire: Tokyo gets a new trailer

Guardian’s of the Galaxy pre-orders are open
To announce that pre-orders are open for Guardians of the Galaxy, Square Enix released a new trailer for the game at the PlayStation Showcase. This one gives a few more hints about the story, while also showing inspiration from the MCU films by James Gunn.
Grand Theft Auto V next-gen delayed
Rockstar dropped another trailer reminding people that the next-gen PlayStation 5 debuts of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online have been delayed. While it may be hard to get excited over upgrades to decade-old games, there is still a decent-sized community playing these games, with some likely wishing they could play native ports on their brand new PlayStation 5s.
Deathloop gets a story trailer
While the game is just a few days away from launch, Bethesda decided to drop another trailer for Deathloop. This new trailer reveals more of the game’s story, getting players ready for it when it drops on Sept. 14.
Radiohead is releasing Kid A Mnesia Exhibition
Radiohead, yes the band, has teamed up with Epic Games for Kid A Mnesia Exhibition. The trailer itself doesn’t give much, but what was revealed seems strangely intriguing.
Tchia will have up playing virtual ukele
This kid-friendly adventure game seems fun enough on its own. But what caught the internet’s collective eye were the ukele mechanics which seem to be inspired by the guitar sequences from The Last of Us 2.
Vampire battle royale Bloodhunt is coming to PlayStation 5
Battle royale games are all the rage these days, as such, it’s not surprising that one based on the Vampire: The Masquerade franchise is in the works. Though Blood Hunt was already revealed for PC, this is the first we’re hearing of this Sony partnership. Hopefully, this means that the game will get some form of cross-play.
