The Witcher Remake revealed by CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher Remake, a remake of the original The Witcher, built on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.

Previously teased by CD Projekt Red under the codename “Canis Majoris,” The Witcher Remake is currently in the early stages of development at developer Fool’s Theory. While the game is being developed externally, veteran The Witcher series staff are still heavily involved and CD Projekt Red is providing full creative supervision. “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red,” stated CD Projekt Red head of studio Adam Badowski “It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.” ”

“Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games,” he added, commenting on the decision to move development to an external studio. “They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

Meanwhile, Fool’s Theory CEO stated that he was “very happy that my professional paths have crossed again with fellow developers from the time of working together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3.”

Founded in 2015, Fool’s Theory describes itself as “a collective of AAA veterans.” The Poland-based studio previously contributed to games such as Baldur’s Gate IIIHellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Outriders, among others.

The Witcher Remake is just one of four new games in the series in the works. Beyond it, CD Project Red has also revealed a new game codenamed Polaris that is set to mark the beginning of a new trilogy of the Witcher games.
