God of War Ragnarok has a release date

Sony has finally given God of War Ragnarok a release date. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2018 reboot arrives on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 9.

The release date for the long-awaited game came as part of a short new “Father and Son” cinematic trailer that you can watch below. In it, we see Kratos and Atreus facing off against various foes, culminating in a face-off with what appears to be Fenrir.

In addition to the God of War Ragnarok release date, Sony also announced that pre-orders for the game will be opened on July 15 at around 10:00 PM ET (10:00 AM the next day in the Philippines). Beyond this, they also detailed the four different versions of the game that will be available for purchase: standard, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s and Jotnar editions.

Of the four, the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s and Jotnar editions will include access to both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. Those who buy the standard PlayStation 4 edition, on the other hand, will be given the option to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for $10 (Php 558). (Read: PS5 will be backward compatible with 99% of PS4 games)

Sony has yet to reveal the pricing for these different editions. That said, it looks like the Jotnar edition will be the highest-priced option. Thie edition will include a vinyl record, pin set, cloth map and a 16-inch Mjolnir replica, among others.

There’s still a lot that Sony hasn’t revealed about God of War Ragnarok aside from the fact that it’s a direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, following Kratos and Atreus as they deal with the fury of the Norse gods. It’s also set to conclude the Norse chapter of the franchise, as Santa Monica Studio has gone on record that it does not want this part of the story to become too long.
