Honkai: Star Rail coming to PlayStation 5

Honkai: Star Rail, Hoyoverse’ turn-based strategy space RPG is coming to PlayStation 5. At the recent Sony State of Play stream, Sony and Hoyoverse announced that the game was coming to the console on October 11, 2023.

As part of the announcement, Hoyoverse and PlayStation dropped a new trailer, narrated by the mysterious Stellarion Hunger, Kafka, who invites players to immerse themselves in the game.

While Hoyoverse may be more known for its hit open-world RPG Genshin Impact these days, the company made its name with the Honkai series. Honkai: Star Rail is the fourth installment of said series, taking place in an alternate world from the previous game, Honkai Impact 3rd. Honkai: Star Rail differs from its predecessors in that it uses a turn-based combat system—giving the game a unique feel from those games as well as Genshin Impact.

Despite the change in gameplay style, Honkai: Star Rail still comes with the amazing and flashy cel-shaded graphics that Hoyoverse has become known for.  The studio states that the PlayStation 5 port will double down on this thanks to the console’s “cutting-edge technology and hardware capabilities.”

At the same time, just like Genshin Impact, the PlayStation 5 version of the game will still be able to play with the PC, iOS and Android versions of the game. In addition, players from those versions will be able to carry their saved games across all platforms.

Finally, for those who haven’t gotten Sony’s current-generation console, a PlayStation 4 version of Honkai: Star Rail is also in the works.
