Here’s what the Nintendo Switch OLED brings to the table

The Nintendo Switch has brought countless people joy over the recent years. It experienced unprecedented growth in popularity in 2020, and to date, over 78 million Switch consoles have been sold across the globe. The coronavirus pandemic, in particular, has contributed to Switch sales, with many individuals looking for ways to entertain themselves while stuck in quarantine.

The Nintendo Switch’s growth is not over yet, either. Soon, sales may boom again following the launch of its highly anticipated product: the Nintendo Switch OLED.

This upgrade to the beloved Switch features a bright, new OLED display. This display will make games appear more vivid and visually pleasing to gamers, which is certainly a bonus if you spend a lot of time on your console. However, enhanced visuals are only one of the other promising Nintendo Switch OLED features that will elevate gameplay for all users. Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming release:

1. Larger screen

The current Switch and Switch Lite models have 6.2 and 5.5-inch LCD screens, respectively. The new Nintendo Switch OLED will have a stunning 7-inch screen. As mentioned, gamers will have an enhanced visual experience because each pixel will be individually controlled. This means that colors would appear more vibrant and eye-catching.

2. More perspectives

Speaking of enhanced visuals, the Nintendo Switch OLED features a wider, highly adjustable kickstand. With it, gamers can have a variety of viewing angles and perspectives, which is an upgrade from the original Switch’s smaller, less stable stand.

3. Wired ethernet port

Gamers can now enjoy high-speed Internet with the OLED model’s built-in Ethernet port. Gamers can hook their consoles up using an Ethernet cable, which can provide a more seamless experience for Internet-reliant games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

4. New look

The Switch OLED is also debuting a new sleek color scheme. From its dock to its controllers, you’re sure to enjoy seeing the Switch OLED’s stylish new look in all white. However, you can still opt for the basic color scheme if you wish.

5. Enhanced storage capacity and audio

The standard Switch and Switch Lite models both come with 32GB storage. The OLED model boasts a whopping 64GB, which provides gamers with more space for digital game downloads. The new console will also reportedly have better audio.

However, gamers should note that despite the Switch’s new OLED display, the upgraded console will still have the standard 720p resolution of its predecessors. This means that there will be little to no difference in the level of detailing and definition for each game. The new model will also have the same general specs and processor, so you won’t be getting a faster, more powerful gaming experience.

However, this doesn’t mean that we don’t want to try out the new console—something we expect to do in the coming months. The Nintendo Switch OLED console is set for commercial release on October 8, 2021. Its retail price is set at $349 (Php 17,600), and pre-orders will be open very soon.
