After months of teasing, Sony finally revealed the PlayStation VR2 headset’s price and release date.
The follow-up to the original PlayStation VR will officially launch on February 22, 2023 and will come with a suggested retail price (SRP) of US$549.99 or Php 32,000 as of reporting time.
This price will net buyers the PlayStation VR2 headset, a set of PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones. In addition, Sony will also release a special PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle for US$599 (Php35,000). As its name indicates, this bundle will include a copy of Horizon Call of the Mountain—the VR spinoff based on Sony’s Horizon franchise.
Finally, a separate changing station for the PS VR2 Sense controller will also launch on the same day. The charging station will retail for $49.99 (Php 3,000) and will allow players to charge their PS VR2 Sense controllers without having to take up a USB port on their console. The new PlayStation VR2 includes headset feedback, eye tracking and 3D audio. Compared to the original PlayStation VR, the PlayStation VR2 features higher fidelity visuals at a 4000 x 2040 resolution format—2000 x 2040 per eye. The headset has also been redesigned for more comfort and is much smaller and lighter than its predecessor. It also comes with a lens adjustment dial and an integrated vent for additional airflow.
In addition, the PS VR2 Sense controllers will feature the advanced adaptive triggers first seen on the DualSense controller.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation VR2 will open on November 15, 2022. Players from a limited number of countries will be able to do so directly from PlayStation’s online store. For the Philippines, however, interested buyers will have to instead go to participating retailers. Further information on the pre-order process will be provided through the latter.
