Tekken’s Kazuya is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

At the Nintendo E3 2021 Direct presentation, game director Masahiro Sakurai announced that Tekken’s Kazuya is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.

While the inclusion may seem a bit off-beat—Tekken is usually associated with Sony’s PlayStation—Kazuya in Smash actually makes sense considering that Bandai Namco has helped Nintendo with the most recent Smash Bros. games. (Read: Tekken 7 Polish character Lidia is coming March 23)

Nintendo hasn’t been shy about adding characters to Smash from franchises more associated with the PlayStation, as evidenced by the inclusion of both Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

Of course, Smash has seen the addition of other traditional fighting game guest characters in its roster as well. The game features Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter as well as Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters.

When he does arrive, Kazuya will be the fifth fighter coming into the game as part of Fighter Pass Vol. 2, and the 81st character overall in the game. After him, Nintendo has one more character to reveal to round out the second Fighter Pass DLC.

Previous characters from Fighter Pass Vol. 2 include Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Min Min from Arms, Steve/Alex from Minecraft, and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

As for how Kazuya will play—Smash is quite different from Tekken after all—no details were revealed in the trailer. That said, Sakurai confirmed that more details on the character will be revealed on June 28. In the meantime, watch the reveal trailer:
