The World Ends with You sequel announced for PlayStation 4, Switch
Over a decade since the release of the original, Square Enix has announced a sequel to its cult hit action RPG The World Ends with You. Called NEO: The World Ends with You, the new game is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021.
First released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS (yes, it’s been that long), The World Ends with You received universal praise for its distinctive, comic book-esque art style inspired by its unique (pre-Persona 5) Shibuya setting. Since then, the game has seen a couple of re-releases, including its most recent port to Nintendo Switch.
NEO: The World Ends with You once again brings players back to the streets of Shibuya where they’ll take the role of Rindo, who has been forced to take part in the “Reapers’ Game,” a life-or-death battle. As Rindo, players must explore the heart of Tokyo to uncover the mysteries behind the deadly game.
The new game lovingly brings modern Shibuya to life with a unique, comic-inspired style. While they’re battling monsters alongside their allies, players can explore and enjoy the sights, sounds and culture of Shibuya while completing missions as they seek to change their fate.
Unlike its predecessor, which has been limited to handheld systems and mobile, NEO: The World Ends World Ends with You will also be coming to a home console: the PlayStation 4. That said, those who prefer to play the series on the game can still do so on Nintendo Switch.
NEO: The World Ends with You is set to arrive sometime in mid-2021. In the meantime, Square Enix has dropped a teaser trailer showing of some of the things that players can expect when it arrives next year.
