MSI x Evangelion collaboration announced at CES
Following in the footsteps of ASUS’s Mobile Suit Gundam collaboration, MSI announced its own Evangelion anime-themed line of PC components at CES 2022.
The new MSI x EVANGELION PC component range is inspired by the design and style of the Evangelion Unit-01, featuring the latter’s striking purple/green/black color scheme. The specific components are the MSI B660 Tomahawk EVA e-Project motherboard, MSI Gungnir 110R EVA e-Project case, MSI MAG Coreliquid C240 EVA e-Project all-in-one water cooler, and the A650BN EVA e-Project power supply. “MSI is also excited to partner with EVANGELION e: PROJECT to announce a collaboration for a motherboard, liquid cooler, power supply, and PC case. EVANGELION e: PROJECT is an e-sports brand that incorporates the world of EVANGELION,” the company stated in its press release. “The design adopts the appearance of the Evangelion Unit-01, with its iconic purple and green color scheme that is worthy of helping DIY users build their own iconic Evangelion-inspired gaming system.”
The components themselves are branded versions of existing MSI hardware. That said, according to a report by Tom’s Hardware, the B660 Tomahawk EVA e-Project motherboard features higher specs than its regular, unbranded version; featuring support for DDR5 memory while the regular version only supports DDR4. The other features included motherboard, such as PCIe 4.0 slots, Gen 4 M.2 support, USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, 2.5G LAN, and Wi-Fi 6E for wireless connectivity, which can be found in the non-branded version.
The release date for the MSI x EVANGELION PC components has yet to reveal. MSI has also not revealed how much they’ll retail for. That said, ASUS’ Gundam-themed ROG components do come with a hefty markup, so it’s likely MSI will do the same for their own Evangelion-themed parts.
